NEWS: New Course for Solar Installers
New Course for Solar Installers
Introduction to Photovoltaic System Design and Installation. This 100 hour course combines traditional classroom lecture plus hands-on installation exercises. This course is designed to provide a rigorous foundation of knowledge and skills for entry-level PV installers. It covers basic mathematics and electrical circuit theory; solar fundamentals, PV components, and PV system design and performance simulation. This course will make extensive use of on-line tools to aid electrical and mechanical system design and system simulation. PV system design will include mechanical and electrical issues. There will be a section on NEC-compliant design including wire ampacity, grounding, component listing, interconnection and labeling; and a section on how to work with tools and OSHA workplace safety. The course will be organized around four critical task areas: (1) Sizing Systems to meet customer objectives, (2) the Site Survey, (3) Detailed System Design and Simulation, and (4) System Installation, Certification and Troubleshooting.
Instructor: Dr. Peter T. Parrish, Ph.D.
Dr. Parrish earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California Berkeley
He is a licensed Solar Contractor (C-46) and a NABCEPÔ Certified PV Installer (#031806-26)
