A cloture vote is expected in the Senate around 5:30 p.m. today on the "Energy Independence and Tax Relief Act of 2008." This new legislation is Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus's energy and tax extenders substitute amendment to HR 6049. Cloture on a motion to proceed was filed on Thursday, June 12, 2008. The Baucus Amendment provides 8 year extensions of both the commercial and residential solar tax credits, relief from the AMT, a doubling of the residential monetary cap to $4,000 and elimination of the public utility prohibition on taking the credit directly. The cloture vote requires 60 Senators to proceed to debate on the bill.
It is urgent that you call your Senators today to tell them to support passage of this amendment. It is extremely important that you let your Senators know that your company needs an extension of the ITC.
It is critical that you contact your Senators today urging them to take bipartisan leadership and vote to proceed to move the Investment Tax Credit into legislation.
